Stuart trained in studio pottery at Birmingham College of Art and Design. Immediately after graduating he established Collection Gallery and a manufacturing business in Birmingham.
In the early 1980's he moved to Ledbury, Herefordshire where the gallery gained a good reputation for studio ceramics and was for many years one of a small group of galleries across the country selected for quality by the Crafts Council. Stuart's manufacturing business thrived and absorbed much of his waking hours at this time.
Forty years after leaving Birmingham College, Stuart has returned to potting and is currently enjoying "going back to his roots" and is learning about saltglaze techniques through a masterclass run by Jeremy Steward at Wobage Farm Workshops.
Concentrating on his pots, at last, Stuart really enjoys producing uncomplicated designs that provide a foil for the foods they hold. His aim is to make useful pots that can be used straight from the oven or kitchen to the dining room and have a sophistication which emerges from their simplicity.
